Red snowfall of moths, fluttering on the wing.

An elephant trumpeting, shockingly loud, from somewhere near your feet.

Twitching stall curtains draped over curios that whisper your name, as a woman with a golden grin beckons you closer, proffering tapestries of lymph nodes and maps to your heart's desire for a price that's almost too good to be true.

~

In the autumn of last year, I was made redundant from my job of eleven years, and taking a look back over that time I realised I’d lost a creative spark that previously drove me, and in a fit of frenzied, caffeine-fuelled panic inspiration, I got to work making something.

If you’ve ever been in a position where your players are shopping, and you’ve had to quickly drum up a string of shopkeepers and vendors on-the-fly, this book might just help you. The Goblin Market is a system agnostic collection of over fifty merchants, monsters and even stranger things which can be dropped into your campaign to add weirdness and magic for your players: retired river gods, escaped nightmares, tea merchants, wicker basket mechs, predatory graves, vengeful dragons seeking to raise an army to defeat tyrannical princesses, off-duty demons, magical roboticists, mystery cults, accidentally immortal witches, and many more.

Each entry details a merchant and the items they both buy and sell, but also contains a number of plot hooks (over 140, last time I checked) so you can give your players sidequests to investigate. Each vendor can be dropped into your game on their own, but also exists in a setting - a setting where each market stallholder invokes and involves other entries and merchants as rivals, romantic interests, family members and possible eldritch accomplices from the days before the Moon was born.

It’s a living, breathing place, and I’ve loved writing it so, so much. It's my hope that you'll love it too.

The text content is good. However, I am currently seeking a printable version.

Tried to manually brighten the parchment background by placing a semi-transparent (page sized) white rectangle between the text elements and the background on each page. However, my PDF editing programme isn't good enough to prevent the text boxes from becoming misaligned.

If you'd like to offer a printable version, I'd be most grateful!  I've found that setting a white rectangle overlay underlay middle-lay transparency at 25% (that is 75% opaque), seems to be adequate for printing while retaining all the flourishes and lines in the original pagework design.

Thank you very much for reading. I'm going to chat to John, who designed the layout, and we'll hash this out.

I love this book, and that's coming from someone who hardly ever buys system agnostic stuff. The NPCs are so distinct and alive! I love the author's prose. Definitely check this out if you're looking for interesting NPCs!

Thank you, sincerely, this means so much.

This book is SO good! All of the NPCs have distinct personalities and appearances, and I can tell just dropping one of them, much less multiple, into any game I run would have the players latch on immediately!

Do you have any plans for future releases with more art? I loved the written descriptions, but getting art of my current favorite (haven't finished reading all of them) Tryphosa Tucker Thimbling would be icing on the cake of this amazing book!

Thank you so much. Yes, there will be a second book, and it WILL contain recurring characters! However, I'm not sure which characters as yet.
I'd like to preface this by saying this idea currently only exists as two pages, so anything I say now will be subject to change. However: the next book will feature The City of Frost and Verdigris, a sprawling city suffering under the rule of that tyrant in pink, Princess Roxanne, who is mentioned in Abigail's entry.
Unlike the Goblin Market, it'll be more... defined? As in I'm literally envisaging it as a city-setting that GMs will want to have their players explore, with districts and streets and maybe even maps. Expect to see several members of The Conventicle again: they're hard at work bending powers at work within the city to their mysterious ends. And there's vampires, and mechanical birds. We'll also see Solomon, Melanie, Cassandra and Bear, and the Thing in the Corner for certain.
Beyond that, I'm not sure *yet* but we shall see.
